New Beginnings

Thoughts for the birth of this new fellowship …

  1. I plan to go to meetings at this Fellowship. Having said that, I couldn’t help but be mindful of the AA saying, “All it takes to start a new meeting is a resentment and a coffee pot.” Since I know many of the people active in this I will say that I think that “desire for growth” would probably be more accurate than “resentment” as a reason for starting this new endeavor. Please correct me if I’m wrong but this new endeavor seems to be founded on the AA model, is willing to contribute to the AA cause, but I’m not sure that it’s AA. Personally, this doesn’t matter to me.

  2. Oh dear! This could be a spot for unwanted disclosure of full names. I’ll try posting in my usual. Maybe a note for future users could be placed at the top?

  3. I would like to chair a meeting, I would even more so like to start a meeting and format it like reality farm in SF because it is such a nice format for newcomers.

    1. There are still some AA meetings that need secretaries/co-secretaries (check the whiteboard). Each group is autonomous, so as long as the readings/format do not conflict with the AA Preamble or 12 Traditions, go for it!

      1. How does Reality Farm operate? I just see it listed as a Young People meeting. Its nice when GOOD traditions spread from meeting to meeting…

  4. Regarding Don’s comment, “I’m not sure that it’s AA”, it clearly isn’t — an SLAA meeting is already on the schedule. Which doesn’t bother me in the least: If Courage To Change wants to rent space to OA, NA, CA, Nicotine Anonymous, AlAnaon, and other 12-Step meetings, that’s awesome.

But I do think it’s good to be clear. The AA meetings will need to decide whether to band together as a single AA group or function as individual groups, but I don’t see AA group business being conducted at the Courage To Change business meetings because the C2C bylaws clearly state that they’re not affiliated with AA. Presumably the C2C business meetings will focus on operations and let the meetings focus on carrying their various messages.

    1. We have applied as a new group “El Cerrito Courage to Change” with General Service Office (GSO) in New York, so all our AA meetings are under one banner. As AA is the predominant 12-step recovery program in our Fellowship, AA Service Representatives will present their reports at our Service Committee Meetings…that is, once we elect AA Service Representatives! Come to our first Service Committee Meeting on Monday, September 17, 7:00 pm.

  5. Congratulations on opening another fellowship for meetings. I lacked the courage to change until I accepted myself as I am and others as they are. The Steps helped me grow into a sober, sane and happy person. I look forward to participating in this fellowship.
